Farmers have been challenge to conserve soil and water to curb the country’s annual loss of tonnes of soil, as the government embark on a soil and water conservation blitz countrywide.Speaking on the sidelines of a soil and water conservation policy formulation workshop, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanization, Farming Infrastructure, Soil and Water Conservation Chief Director Engineer Edwin Zimhunga said the loss is due to climate change further calling for employment of mitigatory and adaptation measures to effects for the scourge, particularly urging farmers to conserve soil and water. Acting director in the same department Mr. Herbert Gutu attributed the loss of soil and water to malpractices like streambank cultivation, saying they have since embarked on a soil and water conservation blitz to mitigate these challenges.
