Buhera woman gets 7-months imprisonment for abortion

A 31-year old woman from Chaumwe village under Chief Chamutsa in Buhera has been sentenced to 7-months imprisonment and 175 hours of community service for unlawfully terminating her pregnancy. Emma Mandebvu pleaded guilty to unlawfully terminating her pregnancy when she appeared before Mutare Magistrate Prisca Manhibi.  Prosecutor Thurston Mubvumbi told the court that on 22 September 2022 the accused intentionally terminated her unborn baby and dumped it outside the yard. On 1 October 2022 a report was made to the police by an unknown person leading to her arrest.

She was taken to Birchenough Bridge hospital for examination and a medical report proved that she had committed the crime.
