Honde Valley tea growers have stopped selling their tea to the Eastern Highlands Plantations claiming the entity is paying low prices for their produce. Honde Valley Tea Growers Association chairperson Eliah Matsikira said Eastern Highlands Plantations, is buying a kilogramme of tea at $29,00 per kg, which farmers say is not enough to cover production costs, adding that farmers want part of their payment in foreign currency since they procure most of the inputs in United States dollars. He added that tea growers in Honde Valley can only sell their produce to one processor, Eastern Highlands Plantations, since all other processors in the area closed almost a decade ago.
