Zimbabwe Farmers Union (ZFU) says Manicaland has got adequate winter wheat harvesting equipment for farmers ahead of the harvesting period set to begin next month. ZFU Provincial Manager Professor Edward Mataruse said for the large-scale farmers, AFC Leasing Company released 13% of its combine harvesters that will be ready for hiring out and are stationed in local centers across the province, adding that there was need for proper co-ordination in the harvesting of the crop to ensure that the yield is not affected by this season’s rains. Farmers planted more than 85 000 hectares of the winter wheat crop this year countrywide and the annual wheat consumption for Zimbabwe is above 400 000 tonnes.
