Villagers in ward 23 Mutasa have expressed concern over health hazards being posed by open defecation by artisanal miners along Mutare river. Ward Councillor Fabian Gume said artisanal miners have increased in the area over the past few months and that there is growing worry over potential outbreak of diseases like typhoid and cholera as most people depend on Mutare river for domestic water, further appealing to local authorities to urgently look into the matter before the situation worsens. He further emphasized on the need for the construction of boreholes under the Presidential Borehole drilling program in the area as access to clean safe water has also been a challenge to most villagers.
