Training on frost mitigating measures

Farmers in Chimanimani District have been encouraged to capitalize on trainings they are receiving from the Department of Agricultural, Technical and Extension Services on frost mitigating measures to curtail losses. Chimanimani Agritex Officer Mr Pasipanodya Chiturike says tomatoes and potatoes grown in their area are the most affected as it is a low lying area adding that the ground must also be kept free from weeds and mulch to allow absorption of heat during the day and release of heat during the night. Many vegetable crops are vulnerable to frost action and require the farmer’s intervention to mitigate the harsh effects of the cold weather.
