Grading of late planted tobacco is still in progress in Makoni District with some farmers completing the tobacco stalk destruction in their fields.

In an interview, Makoni District Agritex Officer Joseph Chipere said as a result of erratic rainfall patterns experienced during the onset of this year’s farming season, small holder farmers adds that planting of nurseries for irrigated tobacco has begun. Due to the adverse effects of climate change, many farmers were unable to plant in time as most parts of the country received the rains late December.
