Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honorable Nokuthula Matsikenyere has lauded development partners who renovated two provincial laboratories for address Anti-Microbial Resistance.
In a speech read on her behalf after the commissioning of two government laboratories in Mutare by Director for Economic Development in the office of the Permanent Secretary Mr Munyaradzi Rubaya, Hon Matsikenyere said this initiative will strengthen the province diagnostic capacity thereby increasing the province’s capacity and preparedness to deal with disease outbreaks.
Addressing guest at the same event FAO Sub-Regional Coordinator for Southern Africa and Representative for Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Eswathini Dr Patrice Talla said they will continue working with the government and producers with the aim to reduce antimicrobial resistance in food systems.
Antimicrobial resistance is when bacteria, viruses, fungal and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines, making it harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe medical conditions and death.
