A 20-year-old woman from Gumira village under Chief Musikavanhu in Chipinge appeared in court facing charges of exposing an infant. Prosecutor Chipo Matanga told the court that Florence Magwenzi intentionally dumped a new born baby in a Blair toilet on independence eve around lunchtime.
The matter came to light after Esther Mlambo, a neighbour to the accused heard sounds of a crying baby and informed the police. Florence was not asked to plead but was remanded in custody to 20 May by Mutare magistrate Alfred Chinembiri.
