119 people in Mutare had a chance to get free diabetes testing from a local development partner. Speaking during a health expo held at Meikles park over the weekend, Mutare Entrepreneurs and Speciality Lions Club President Beauty Hughes said out of 68 people who were tested for diabetes, 39 were new cases. Meanwhile, Shadreck Mawande, President of Karoi Lions Club which initiated the program said as a way of celebrating their 10th charter anniversary they decided to give back to the community through aiding those in need. Besides the health tests, 70 people were also given free reading glasses. Still on health Manicaland Zimbabwe Diabetes Association (ZDA) called on people with diabetes to consider adopting a healthy lifestyle as a way of suppressing and managing the disease. ZDA Manicaland Board Chairperson, Bishop Jeremiah Matenhese said diabetes has become a chronic killer and proper management is needed to prevent complications. He further urged people to get constant tests as many are suffering from this disease unknowingly.
