Farmers in Manicaland have been urged to invest in rain gauges for successful farming activities during summer cropping seasons. Seed Marketing Agronomist Searchmore Chiweshe said the initial light showers experienced during onset of the rainy season led farmers into early planting when they are supposed to plant their maize using the first effective rainfall which ranges between 35mm-50mm. He further warned farmers against ill-timed planting of their summer crop as this may lead to massive losses.
